Anxiety

Anxiety is the body’s reaction to perceived danger or important events ; it is like an internal alarm system. It alerts people of threat and helps the body prepare to cope. When individuals become anxious, it affects thoughts, bodily reactions, and behaviours. In its purest form, anxiety protects people and triggers something called the “fight-flight-freeze” response. This automatic response assists individuals in combatting danger. When an individual continually remains in this alarm state, anxiety can become overwhelming and inhibit daily functioning. There are many powerful tools available to manage anxiety. Working collaboratively with a psychologist can provide individuals with such tools.
