Depression
Depression is not a temporary change in mood or a sign of weakness. It is an authentic condition with many emotional, physical, behavioural and cognitive symptoms. Unfortunately, many people do not seek help because they are afraid of what others will think. Some factors associated with depression include: Family history, imbalance of chemicals in the brain, difficult life events, trauma, work demands, chronic illness, death and loss, and substance use. Some symptoms associated with depression may include: Feeling sad, hopeless, a lack of interest in activities previously enjoyed, aches and pains that can't be explained, lack of energy, inability to concentrate, and withdrawal from friends and loved ones. Seeking out professional help by visiting the doctor and connecting with a counsellor are some of the first steps in understanding and managing depression.
